It Doesn't Fit... Fashion in Your 40s
Sleek and stylish, baggy and casual or athletic gear; sometimes it doesn't fit. The outfit you planned out months ago for that event with your sister, seems to have shrunk in the closet when you got that new desk job. This doesn't mean that you lost your fashion taste, it just means that you lost your drive to fit into those clothes. When this happens many women cancel their plans but constant cancelling can lead to isolation or loss of friendships.
So what is one to do? Spend thousands on a new wardrobe or start a new diet. Most of us lean toward the latter but you soon realize that style and fashion are an ever changing adventure through time, also what if you lose or gain too much weight. Before you try that new fad diet or buy new clothes, realize that though your body is changing so is the fashion industry.
Ill-fitting clothes are the new normal. With skyrocketing returns, clothing does not seem to be our friend; but, you can bypass that by purchasing clothes that can be tailored to your constantly changing body. According to Andrea Kennedy's article "The Results Are In... Our Clothes Dont Fit", "trend cycles are accelerated" and in turn have produced fit issues.
After all my years of buying clothing off the rack, trying on and being disappointed, I've learned that fashion is not an exact science but something that is strived for. It's not just about clothing to the masses but looking amazing while doing it. Just small changes to your wardrobe can change your attitude, put away the ratty clothes and get something new that exudes your personality and makes your eyes pop.
